RISD GPP requests that a transcript from the host institution be sent to the them shortly after the exchange has ended. You may wish to request your own copy from the foreign exchange school coordinator for your records. You will have already completed the Exchange Program of Study/Learning Agreement form upon arrival at the partner school. The course selection is preapproved by GPP and RISD Department Head and a determination made as to how credits will be posted on your student transcript upon your return. Questions sometime still arise regarding credits awarded on exchange; therefore it is a good idea to keep copies of all written work for courses taken on exchange. Photo documentation of art and design projects completed abroad is useful, too, when arranging for credits to be reviewed by your Department Head .
PROCESS OF CREDIT TRANSFER INTO RISD TRANSCRIPT
THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY! Upon receiving a sealed official transcript from the partner school via mail, GPP sends this original to the RISD Registrar along with copies to you and your department head. You and your department head then set up a meeting where transcripts are reviewed. The department head completes a form for the Registrar that designates how the credits will be distributed on your RISD final transcripts and sends this to the Registrar. The course and credit is recorded, with no letter grade, if passed. If the credits involve liberal arts credits, students must meet with the Dean of Liberal Arts to negotiate the credit recording by the Registrar. (If Liberal Arts courses are taken during the student’s exchange semester, it is recommended that these courses be approved beforehand by the Dean of Liberal Arts to ensure credit upon return).
GRADES Grades received from the Host School during Mobility study will become part of the student’s official record at their Home School, in accordance with the Home School’s policies for such study. Host Schools should not count mobility students in their registration statistics. While at the Host School, the student will be governed by the academic regulations of the Host School and will not be eligible for student aid or employment from the Host School. The Host School is responsible for notifying the Home School of any deficiencies during the semester.
EXCHANGE EVALUATIONS The Global Partners and Programs office requires that a survey evaluating the exchange experience be filled out upon the student’s return HERE
These surveys are kept on file in GPP and are a very valuable resource for fellow students who are considering exchange!
