RISD Global is a hub for discourse and cross-cultural exchange that supports students, faculty, and members of the RISD community on campus and in the world. It fosters reciprocal exchanges of ideas and practices across cultures, borders, and languages through dialogue, debate, and immersive learning experiences.
Our division promotes global engagements that broaden perspectives, decenter experiences, and reframe assumptions as well as supporting mobility that connects students, faculty, and partners with diverse traditions of, and approaches to, making across the world. These approaches are transformative and augment design and making practices that creatively shape our world.
Health & Safety
The safety and well being of all students engaged in off-campus learning is a top-priority for RISD. RISD Global proactively monitors the locations where the students are traveling via the U.S. Department of State and other trusted sources, and remains in regular connection with our contacts in each city.
Students are therefore advised to thoroughly research the hosting local environment, such as the political and social climate of the destination country, as well as the potential risks involved with their travel. Students can find much of this information through the U.S. Department of State’s Country Information website or the U.S. Students Abroad website. Students are also encouraged to sign-up for the U.S. State Department STEP program to receive timely updates about any situations occurring in the locations that they are traveling in/to.
Once arrived onsite, students are strongly encouraged to closely follow local news, exercise vigilance, and follow all safety recommendations. It is also imperative to review and adhere to the local laws and customs.
